Windows XP not detecting LAN connection

by Sugarmel / September 11, 2010 1:32 AM PDT

One of my computers that run XP is not detecting the internet connection. I have it set to automatically detect connection, and when I go into Network Connections, I do not see my LAN. Also, when I go into Device the adapter is working correctly. The light at the back where my cable is connected is lighted up. What can it be? My other computer works fine.

Just so everyone knows.

"Device the adapter is working correctly" is no sign that a device is good, functional or has the right drivers.

Your post is missing all the good details and we know that XP can't find drivers and we know that installing drivers is less than intuitive. At the minimum I would look at the motherboard driver package then the lan driver.

I would also remove Norton, firewall and run the Winsock2 repair at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811259

But I may be incorrect given so little to work with.

Sounds proper.

But coming back over a year later with so few details means I have to repeat what I wrote over a year ago. XP does not find drivers for us and Norton can block use when it expires.

Again, the lack of details after this much time has me think you should tell all in a NEW discussion.
