Windows XP Non-responsive after reboot!

Jan 31, 2009 10:22AM PST

My Dell Inspiron 9300 as of last night started becoming unresponsive shortly after boot; initially, as it's loading all the startup items I can see a lot of HD activity and then, as soon as it's done loading, it becomes completely unresponsive: I cannot open anything.
I tried booting into safe mode and that seems OK; however, short of reinstalling Windows, I am not sure what to do.
Anyone has any suggestion? I would greatly appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks Happy

I'm just curious: how likely is it that it's a corrupt registry/another config software issue versus and actual hardware failure? The reason I'm asking is that I don't actually see any error message: the system just simply dies shortly after boot. I have been using this laptop for years and never had an issue like this, so I'm not completely clueless Happy)
