Seems that I have a bit of a problem, and I guess that you would call this a MEDIA problem.
I am using a Gateway computer with an Intel 2.6 chip and 512 MB of ram running Windows XP SP2. I downloaded from the Internet Windows Media Player 10. I had on the computer Windows Media Player 9. Leaving online, I attempted to install version 10. I tried to install right over version 9. For some reason or another it did not work. I tried again with the same results. I checked on the Internet and I did download the correct version for Windows XP SP2.
So, I attempted to remove the version 9 and all traces of WMP, or whatever is there from C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player and just start again. I can't delete it all. I attempt to do so and it looks as if it is gone, but then it reappears. I have tried several different application programs to delete these files, with all the same results.
I attempted to install the WMP version 10 again and it starts off ok, but then I get this message;
This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows. For more information, view the information at the Microsoft web site.
I have been to that site and downloaded the supposedly correct version 2 times and I still get the same message, 'THIS VERSION OF WINDOWS MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH THIS VERSION OF WINDOWS".
Do you have any suggestions as to what I can do now to get version 9 or 10 of WMP back on this computer and working.
I thank you for your kind assistance and remain;
