Just from the question, my first thought is: what is your monitor resolution set at? Are you having problems in a "word processor"?

Do two lines in Notepad overlap?
Jun 17, 2012 12:59AM PDT

Or is it "not on the desktop, not in word processor, not in Notepad"? Then one starts wondering where it is.

Telling where it happens might be better than were it does NOT happen. A good example is even more better.

If it's in the browser only (you didn't tell if that is the case nor did you tell what browser) try the font size settings in the browser or try another browser.

Safe mode
Jun 16, 2012 2:48AM PDT

Oooooops I forgot to ask if it does the same thing in safe mode. Also. have you tried using another monitor? The reason(s) for asking would be to determine if it is a hardware or software issue. The first thing to try would be safe mode.

Answer
I wonder if that is the old corrupt OS issue.

When the user or malware alters the system font you can end up with overlapping text is all dialog and other boxes.

Too bad a screen shot was not supplied but with the slim details you are giving the solutions are:
1. Reinstall the OS (bye bye what you didn't backup.)
2. Try using the standard fonts. Here's a link to articles if you don't know about this.

Bugs etc.

Yep Bob, had the same thought and IF it does not have the same effect in safe mode, suspect software intrusion etc. And if it does have the same effect (overlap) in safe mode I would more likely think hardware/monitor, especially if the monitor is an older CRT unit and that is when I would try another monitor.

Safe mode uses

Other drivers and fonts. Hence Safe Mode is only informational at this point.

Again, I've seen this but the STORY is so slim here that I'm putting up the most likely thing.

Too bad the make, model, and the long story is missing.

unfortunately , it really is a long story. I'm not going to bore you folks by writing a book. I thought I'd get lucky with a quick fix , I should have known better

There is a quick fix.
Jun 16, 2012 10:13AM PDT

Here they are.

1. Try another user account.
2. Use System Restore to when it worked.

To fix the font issue I know of usually makes folk write or say "Are you kidding me?" as we do all that research and work.
