Windows XP Home - Repair install error - now reboots

by Richtoronto / January 21, 2010 1:06 PM PST

My friend could no longer boot into Windows XP Home and so we did a repair install. All seemed to go well and eventually a message came up saying Install needed to reboot. Well foolish me in my haste didn't notice at the bottom left of the screen the instructions to press F3 to reboot and instead I pushed the main switch on the case. Now when the computer is started it gets to the point where you would expect the Welcome screen but instead an Install screen appears saying that Install is starting. The screen then goes black and reboots. This goes on over and over. Is there any way that this can be fixed? I have tried the repair install over again but it gets to a screen asking you to remove the floppy if any and reboots. Sorry I don't have her system information at hand at this time other than it is an older machine which worked well with XP HOME before.
Thank you in advance.
