Windows XP Home Networking Problem

Feb 27, 2004 5:09AM PST

4 Comps, all running Windows XP Home. All are networked and have been working together for some time. All of a sudden 2 of them are "blind" to the rest of the network.

Belldandy - This computer can not see anyone on the network except for herself. Can get on the internet, can ping all the other comps

Skuld - In the network window she can not even see herself. Can get on the internet, can ping all the other comps

Aika - Can see all comps on the network

Rose - can see all comps on the network

This problem has happened before, and I am tired of paying techs $90 an hour to come in here and fix it. Why are Belldandy and Skuld suddenly "blind"? *NOTHING* on the network has changed. Just all of a sudden *poof* nothing.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Sean

Take a look on the Advanced tab of Local Area Connection Properties , see if Internet Connection Firewall has been enabled.

Well the first question I should ask you, is have you installed any security updates recently? And if the answer is yes, did the problem occur before or after you installed them?

I'd check firewall settings, and services list in Administrative Tools.

I had the same problem, and messed with the "Computer Browser service, and I was able to get network up and running again.
