need a CD
by Alex Vitale / January 23, 2006 6:07 AM PST

There is no way that I am aware of to reformat your hard drive and install a new copy of windows on it with out a windows XP CD... sorry man...

You could reformat your drive w/o the windows cd but then all u would have is an empty hard drive.

You could contact your computer manufacturer for a new copy; they might be able to help.

No...

The only way to reinstall Windows is to have the CD...no way around it. The question is what happened to your CD? If you lost it, contact your computer's manufacturer (or Microsoft if it was a retail copy) and order up a new one...they'll charge you a nominal fee. If it's a newer computer and a CD didn't come with it, you probably have the option to burn one, so check the options from the start menu. It may be too late now due to your infections (would you even be able to burn a set of CDs/DVDs?), but it's worth a try. Aside from that, your only option is to start over with another operating system, such as the free Linux-based OS Ubuntu.

Hope this helps,
John

P.S. I'm interested in how bad off your system is...could you link (don't post the log) to where you posted your HiJackThis log?
