With the XP failure, on the original hard drive, .... could the lack of a working XP, on that drive, ... have something to do with the inability to access the registered serial number for the Camedia program, and my JPEG photos? Just a thought.
I had XP (Home Edition) failure, computer would not boot. Thought it was the hard drive. The the diagnosis was a failed XP, which I hear, ..is not uncommon. HD ok. And, I was not backing up my files.
Instead of restoring XP, on that drive, and losing all files, ... I purchased a new HD, (master) and am using the old HD as the slave. Ran the XP disc that came with this computer, so I have a fresh XP on the new master. I've been able to "Copy to" some files from old to new. However, when I tried to access my Camedia Master Pro 4.2, on old drive, ... a Camedia , notice pops up and states, "No effective serial number, is registered. Please uninstall and try to install again." I'm assuming that all photos will be lost if I uninstall. As a last resort, I tried the old drive, as the master again. Still would not boot.
I'm definitely in the learning stages, concerning computers ... and now in unknown territory. Exactly, where is the Camedia Master Pro serial number stored? Looking for more knowledge and a solution to this problem I now have an external HD, which I will be using, as well as the slave, for back up. Appreciate all the help! Thanks.
