Windows XP Boot Menu: How To Get Rid of It

Jun 6, 2005 5:38AM PDT

During the boot process for Windows XP Home, I get a menu in which I have to highlight ''Windows XP'' in order to continue the boot process. I used to have a dual boot setup with Windows 98 but that was a long time ago. The menu contains three instances of Windows XP and one of Windows 98. How do I get rid of this? I know there's a file somewhere in XP that can be edited to remove this but I've forgotten which file it is.

Windows XP Boot Menu: How Do I Get Rid Of It
Jun 6, 2005 3:20PM PDT

Michael,

Thanks for the tip. It worked just like a charm. Not before XP threw me a curve, however. When I tried to use the ''bootcfg'' command, XP came back with an error message indicating that it didn't recognize ''bootcfg'' as a valid command! So I just used the Start and Recovery dialog to manually edit the file. It's great not having to deal with two menus when the computer boots. I have a dual boot system with Linux. On that menu, WinXP is the default OS but before tonight, I had the other one, too. Thanks again for your help.
