windows xp 32 bit to windows 7 64 bit

Oct 30, 2009 7:44AM PDT

I bought Windows 7 home premium. I inserted the Windows 7 64 bit disk in my drive.
My operating system said that it could not read the disc and to boot up the computer from the disc.
How do I do that? I went to the bios under boot and i put the cd rom first to boot. It did not work
I have an asus p5k3 deluxe motherboard

Thanks Bill

When you tried to boot from the disc, did it ask you to press a key to boot from disc? Sometimes this can be pretty fast after the bios splash screen and easy to miss.

I restarted my computer several times and I don't think I missed it.

Try a new CD/DVD drive.

The inability to boot from a CD/DVD drive is often a sign of an older drive. Try a new CD/DVD drive.

Thanks a lot. It booted from the portable plextor drive that I have.
Windows 7 was a bear to install though.....took a lot of time. But now I have Windows 7 on my computer.

Thanks again,
Bill
