Question

Windows won't boot...just get a blinking cursor.

Sep 19, 2012 2:46AM PDT

I started IT for a company a couple weeks ago. I get this tower with no idea what OS is installed.

Is there a file that I can load through Trinity Rescue Kit that will tell me what version of Windows is installed on the system?

Thanks.

Clarification Request
Did you, as the IT staffer do your research?

I went to google and asked "How do I determine which version of Windows is on the hard drive."

Are you able to get to google?

Answer
Hirens Boot CD

Download and burn Hirens Boot CD. It runs Windows XP Live. Boot from that new CD and load into Windows XP. Once there you should be able to see the C drive and poke around the Windows folder.
