Windows Welcome screen comes up red.

by nocountrydeb / October 16, 2007 1:20 AM PDT

I have a Dell 5100 Inspiron laptop and I spent 2 hours on the phone last night with someone in India to try and tell me why my Welcome screen comes up red and why I can't see any of my pictures saved on my computer. The bottom line was, I would have to call back. How do you like them apples? Can anyone please help me? Is the monitor shot or is it just the graphics card? How do I tell?

'why I can't see any of my pictures'

Are the picture icons there? Or is the problem that you can't open them? Or if you CAN open them, are they not displayed?

Have you tried installing an updated graphics driver? If not, visit Dell and see if there is one to install.

Although the Welcome Screen comes up red, when it finally loads, does it look normal?

Hope this helps and let us know more.

Red Welcome Screen

The icons are there and can be opened, but once opened the pictures are all distorted and mostly red. I will try downloading a new graphics driver tonight. As for the Welcome screen, it never looks right.

As for the graphics driver, is there one in particular that will match what I currently have or how do I know what to download?
