Does the BIOS allow for booting from a CD? The CD/DVD optical drive should be 'first in the list' in the BIOS Boot Order or Boot Priority listing.
This crcdisk.sys error is common and there is no single solution for it. Often the best way to resolve it is to simply reinstall Vista.
If the Toshiba satellite came with a hidden recovery partition that may be the best way to go. Other than that, have a look at the two 'long' discussions I found about this in other forums;

But don't expect this to be easy.

Hello all. Having a bit of trouble with a repair cd. Trying to fix my friends computer. Starting up, it gives me the option to run windows repair or start normally. Doing either will make it hang on the vista home 32 (I believe) load screen. Starting into safemode hangs on crcdisk.sys. I tried a windows vista repair cd. Selected to boot from the cd drive. It seems like it completely skips it and goes right back to the "start windows normally or windows repair" screen. I even tried making a bootable vista repair disk from a USB and nothing.
Any ideas on what to do?
Toshiba satellite a205 with windows vista (home) is about all I know about this computer.
