Question

windows vista versus windows update

Jun 22, 2012 12:20PM PDT

I have had this computer with windows vista for 3 years now & all of a sudden I have encountered some problems with getting my windows update & so I was told first to do a complete system restore but, did not want to if it was all possible & so I then went & got help & paid $60 to get it fixed & it was okay & then again it would not update & I was told my system was crashing with some software & what I do not know & so I then got help but, this time it was covered & it was fixed again but was told I needed more memory & to upgrade to windows 7.....sure need some advice on this...help!! thanks

Answer
Today those .NET updates fail a lot.

But until we see some detail about which update, all my guesses will be bad ones.

Again, there are updates that do fail. And it costs nothing to fix those unless you can't find a KB number or a detail to work with. Then the 60 bucks is cheap for the support.

Answer
windows update
Jun 23, 2012 12:17PM PDT

It was any windows update they had sent me & I just was unable to update any of them & you call $60 dollars cheap? well I thought it was rather high as, I live on a tight budget but, thanks anyways I would appreciate more input though.....

Here the rate is 120 to check an unit at the counter.

So you found support for half that.

Support is costly so I hope you can find your details so we can see what we can do. I'm beginning to see how the iPad tablet is going to make further inroads today as folk don't want to work issues with the Windows PC. They want it to work.

huh?

Well of course you sure are not very understanding nor helpful & I again thought it was very pricy & did not last long as, I had to seek help again for the same issue........do not understand the talk you have on ipad? Ijust do my best to kkep my pc safe & running & have programs for it so thanks but, no thanks for your help.....
So where is here? that it is $120???? right now it is working okay and, i will see what happens when windows update comes again..............

I offered the usual failure.

As an example. And why folk are looking to other computing solutions because the support costs are too much. Your reply is typical and since you won't share which update failed then we can't do much about the failure.

Today I encounter folk that will complain about free support when asked to supply details. They'll respond there is no help and that is true. Given only what you shared, you are bound to encounter the issue again.

Why I noted the iPad is that many are dumping the support and problem ridden Windows PC for something simpler.

Ok forget it

I had mentiones before that whatever windows update had sent I could not download & i did check each one & looked for the cross refernce in the help section & it did not help me at all & right now I can not quite recall what they were as, I sure do have senior moments & I went fo help & it cost me but, it worked & only for about a month & so far it is okay but, do not know what is going to happen when they send more updates??? ok you mention the Ipad & if I had said how I had a hard time financially why in the world could I afford one as, I am still paying on this pc.....so look stop picking what I say apart & if you can not help me then please do not answer with your critical remarks & so quick to judge a situatuion you really know nothing about as, I care for my pc.......so if I do encounter the problem again I will work it out & so soory my problem was too much for you to care for.......

I do care. I hope you do too.

If you take a moment to find the item that failed we can begin. Since I see no KB number or much else I can't be specific. There is that one answer that always fixes it but some are offended. Just in case it's an option for you it is "reload the OS."

As a second line of discussion I wrote about support costs and what folk are doing to get out of the support cost revolving door.
