I am connected to a private LAN and also enabled Windows Firewall on my machine. Now I am facing problem in connecting to other machines.

Please help me with the steps to get this issue fixed. I am using Win Vista om my machine.

First question.

Did it ever work? Were you able to connect to other computers in the past? If so, what has changed since then?

What other computers? What OSes are they using?

The General rule is, to set up a network, each machine must be using the same account profile, eg; the same username and the same password.

- It worked previously when Windows Firewall was disabled.
-- It stopped working when i enabled windows firewall.
-- I used wizard for LAN.
-- Other machines are Vista and 7.
-- I tried to do it on my own but stuck at a point where if i should make and allow rule for trusted (LAN) inbound traffic. Or should i Block rule for inbound traffic and/or apply all of them.

- Did it ever work?
- How exactly did you set it up the LAN. Using the wizard?
- Does it work if you disable Windows firewall on your PC? On the target PC?
- Same workgroup for all machines?
- File sharing enabled on the target machine?

Do you use any other firewall

or just the Windows firewall?

If just windows, I would make and allow the rule for trusted (LAN) inbound traffic. After all, if you don't trust your own LAN then there is no point in having a home network.
