The main factor is compatibility:
* Can your computer handle Vista well? (Check the specs or ask here first.)
* Do your peripherals have updated drivers? (You may find a printer, scanner, etc that is outdated and won't work. Check the manufacturer's website for drivers or ask here first.)
* Is your software compatible? (Some software requires updates, while some will not work under Vista. Check with the developer or ask here first.)
If you can make a fairly seamless transition I would consider it work it. However, if you have a large number of devices or programs that won't work properly, if at all, it would be best to stay put until you either replace those items or the manufacturers release updates for them.

I am currently using windows XP home edition and im reasonably happy with it, however with Vista being brought out i am unsure whether to stick with XP or splash out on Vista, any views would be appreciated especially from people who have made the same jump.
