Windows Vista network drive mapping (NOT)

Sep 11, 2007 6:09AM PDT

I have a big problem and I cannot find a fix. I installed a clean retail of windows vista business at my job. Since the install I have had a problem with network drives. I can map them in my computer, with the domain admin password (not as myself). When I reboot or log off, I lose the mapping and have to recreat the mapping. I went and googled some possible solutions and I tried one that had me change "Network security: LAN Manager authentication level" in local security policy to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if necessary". I actually tried them all and no luck. I changed it back to the default "Send LM & NTLM responses". When I try to map a network drive I cannot authenticate with any user ID and password. When I go to start and Run , and type in the path \\server\path I get the message: Windows cannot find the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access them. Any suggestions? Thanks!

"I can map them in my computer, with the domain admin password (not as myself)"

To fix this I would get my account name on those shares.

Well, I can map them when I log onto a windows nt, 2000, xp machine. I can map with my own domain user account, adinistrator, even desktop support's account. Just not under vista. Thx.

Why not fix it?

While you could write a script to map it on login, what a pain. Why not add your name to that share?

I am the owner of the share with full control

I am the administrative owner of the share with full control. I have been for 2 years. Thx.

It's just a simple account deal. I see the issue and have cleared it up too many times...

You Have Installed LLTD On All XP Machines?

Why now? Not trying to be smart, but I could always see and browse these shares. Just today I cannot browse anymore after I went into the local security policy. Anyway, the file server is windows 2000 server, not xp. So It would not matter. Remember, I could always map and browse (just with a different ID), now I cannot map and browse at all, doesn't even find the path.

It helped the situation here on our EXTREMELY large WAN and LAN. We have all sorts of different servers, Linux, W2003, etc. and mapping was iffy whenever done from the Vista machines.. Allowing the XP comps to be seen helped quite a bit..

Didn't cost a thing either.

I fixed the problem. I went to a system restore point and I can now browse everything on the network with no problem. Thx for the help.
