Question

Windows Vista BSOD

Aug 5, 2012 2:17AM PDT

Hello,

I keep getting a BSOD on windows vista (Surprise surprise!)

All the information I have is that it's a 24 code. The computer had a dud copy of windows 7 so I reinstalled Vista however the problem has continued to happen. Thought it was a RAM problem so bought new RAM but it's still happpening.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Louise

Clarification Request
Make, model, age, story, canned air?
Aug 5, 2012 7:46AM PDT

There is not enough detail here. A fresh install does not BSOD without cause. To go further tell more.

As to the canned air, I'm finding more and more machines that the owners didn't know about the basic maintenance.

Sorry, I am new to computer forums and only have basic knowledge so if you could tell me exactly what you need that would be great?

It was an acer aspire M5100 however its been partly re-built with a new graphics card.

Have removed the newer RAM and it has appeared to have stopped doing it now.

That comment about the new ram has me write.

Those new to the PC world often think that if the RAM plugs in, it should work. Well, that was the idea but the crushing force called "cost" came to wipe out that idea. I find that when I install RAM I must get it from crucial.com unless I have a day to research the 20 odd parameters for the cheap ram I found.

There's also a few folk that find a machine that only supports 2GB of RAM in a pair of 1GB sticks. They'll install 2GB sticks and hope. The results speak for themselves.

Hope you have a clean machine (canned air is your friend) and that you learned a little along the way.

RAM
Aug 6, 2012 6:13AM PDT

Hi Bob,

Yes I did a lot of research on the RAM as I know what problems it can cause, avoided the cheap ones as I didn't want to cause further issues. Does t matter which particular RAM slots it goes into?

Thanks

For laptops? Rarely.

But I can't find the details (make, model, RAM stick make/model) to go any further.

Sometimes cheap ram is the better choice but for now, when I want to avoid the homework with 20+ parameters to check I go with crucial.
