Windows Vista and IE7

by mopscare42 / September 9, 2007 1:00 PM PDT

I have had a problem with IE7 and Windows Vista since upgrading.
Since the last Windows updates, KB938979 and KB933360 it seems to have gotten worse.
Before it would happen once or twice a week, now it is 2 or 3 times a day.
The monitor will have a white haze over it and it will say " Internet explorer has stopped working. Windows is collecting more information about the problem. This may take several minutes" after about 30 seconds it reboots Internet explorer and is OK for awhile.
Any thoughts and suggestions on how to fix this would be much appreciated.
Wayne

But this is my daughters computer and she wants to use IE.
I am using opera on my computer and she hates it. I, quit frankly don't care much for it either, but it works.

This is my fix and I'll share it.

I install HIJACKTHIS and promptly remove any and all BHO entries. This has helped many IE weirdness issues.

I downloaded and installed Highjack this and it had some BHO entries which I removed.
That was an hour ago and I have been on her internet connection steady and IE7 hasn't failed so far.
I will keep track of it for the next couple days and let you know how it comes out.
Thanks again

The BHO entries was not the problem, but I did find out what was causing IE7 to crash.
A friend suggested I run Internet Explorer with all add-ons disabled as he ran into the same problem. That took care of the IE7 crashing.
Now I just have to find out which add-on is causing the problem. She is running Norton Internet Security 2007, so that is the first place I will look.
Thanks again

Norton has been the cause here.

It's script blocker and other items are not ready for today's world. I don't know of a cure except to uninstall it.

Norton does seem to cause a lot of problems.
What internet security suite would you suggest?
McAfee is out of the questionas. I had nothing but trouble with it a couple years back.
All of our computers have Windows Vista Home Premium on them.
Thanks
