Windows Vista and Adobe Flash Player 10

Jul 14, 2009 5:37AM PDT

I have Windows Vista Home Premium and am trying to update to Adobe Flash Player 10. I can't seem to get it to run. I've tried downloading it from the Adobe site, I have uninstalled the older version of Flash Player, I have gone to C:\\Windows|System32|, gone to Macromed, then opened Flash directory, right clicked on FlashUtil10a. selected "Runs as administrator". No Flash player installation wizard shows up. I'm at a loss as to what to do next....

Why are you

Why are you going into the System32 folder for this? All you should need to do is download the installer from Adobe's website, and run that from wherever it is you save it.

Why I tried System32

Nothing seems to be downloading from the Adobe site. I click to download, screen pops up, asking permission to continue w/ the downloading, then nothing happens. When I go online to try and use flashplayer (youtube, facebook, etc), I am told I don't have flash player and need to download it. The only place I can find anything about flashplayer in my computer is in System32....this method was recomended for windows vista when flashplayer 9 first came out and vista users where having the same problem...that's why I tried it.

Can you download other files?

At this point, it sounds like a browser issue with downloading the installer, not an issue with installing Flash Player.

-> Name the browser and try an alternative browser for the download.

I have had problems with this as well. There seems to be no active download button at Adobe, which doesn't help. I finally went through YouTube, whose instructions are very clear... and it worked!

Further to my last message, Flash Player crashed again. I didn't see any connection between this issue and my downloading IE9, but have now reverted to IE8! And in between times I saw that Flash Player worked perfectly well in Firefox and Safari, so it looks to have been a browser issue and not a Flash Player issue. IE9 seems not to download the plugin, which is crucial. Sorry if this seems obvious, but I'm not a computer buff...

Sorry I didn't see this discussion before posting the same Adobe Flash Player problem I have been having since I reinstalled my operating system a couple days ago.No Flash Player crash, it just won't start. I also noticed I cannot open email links or Quick Launch links. I started out after my reinstall with IE7 and have progressed now to IE9 but my problems continue. I have done the Uninstall/Install routine several times with no improvement.

I agree with some of the earlier discussion that this is browser related. I installed Google Chrome because I like how it handles Google Earth links when looking at maps. I noticed that the Google Chrome download included Adobe Flash Player 10. It works perfectly. The problem is I don't like how Google Chrome handles printing and Favorites but I may have to get used to it.

By the way i think Internet Explorer 9 sucks. I feel like I'm on Mars. All the earlier IE versions were progressions. This is a whole new baby. I'm going to Chrome.

I'll check back in a while after I explore this thing further.
