I assume from your post that Windows Vista is still working?
You said the entities, (plural) are not working, but the rest of your post concentrates on your printer.
Try this. In the link below is a list of "drivers" for this HP 5850 deskjet printer.
Select the driver for your version of Vista. Download it and install it. Make sure the printer is turned off and disconnected before you install it. If the printer is not connected to the computer via a USB port, (in other words if it is connected by a non-usb cable or lead), shut down and turn off the computer before disconnecting the printer. Then restart the computer, install the drivers, and repeat/reverse the procedure to reconnect the printer.
I hope that works.
All of a sudden, these two entities are not working. I don't know what happened. However I tried to reinstall the software (CD) that was given to me when I was using the HP Windows XP on my Windows Gateway Vista 32-bit and now it is not working. It was working before and now it's not. I called HP and since I am 1,000 days out of warranty, they won't help me. They want me to buy a new printer. Forget it. It works, it's just the software. I tried using the software on CNET, but CNET only has 5600 and 5700. I would appreciate someone's help if possible. Thank you.
