Resolved Question

Windows Updating

Mar 18, 2014 4:03AM PDT

W'dows Vista home Basic//Dell Dimension C521

I've just re-installed the above OS.
I've found that while Updating works, the Vista SP1 will not install. It states in Update history that it has been successful on three occasions. But it does not show in installed updates. It also shows as an update again every time you open Updating.

Also, I cannot install SP2, it asks for SP pack 1 to be installed first. I believe that SP1 is no longer supported by M'soft.
I've installed the Dell drivers the same as last time I re-installed the OS last year.

Vista issues

Peggy.
It's now sorted, SP 1&2 are now installed.
I will post under Windows with another issue re: hard drive full after two OS re-installations.
I'm inclined to agree, Vista was problematic, hellishly so for me.
Thank you

I can't explain why Microsoft makes you work hard at this. I can find Vista's SP1 as a standalone or network admin install on their site so my question to you is do you think Microsoft is stuck in the 90's of computing?

Vista SP 1&2
Mar 19, 2014 7:56AM PDT

Success Bob, but at a price, my sanity. Followed your link and d/loaded the English version. I knew this was different than the two other stand alone versions in my d/loads as 1) It took longer to d/load. 2) It took a lot longer to install. 3) It was configured.
I chanced my hand for SP2 on the same link to the Windows d/load centre. Selected SP2 English and away to go. Not so, it failed to install due to a compatiblity issues. Chanced my hand with a stand alone version I d'loaded yesterday. It worked as for the SP1 above.
Can you explain this scenario?
Why wouldn't W'dows update do the damned job in the first place, it has before?
Regards,
Art.

They are stuck in the 90's or prior about this being for computer experts. They are only recently getting the idea that folk don't want to be IT staffers.
