Question

Windows Updates

Mar 26, 2018 2:01AM PDT

OK, I give up. I no longer own my PC.

Microsoft is forcing Windows 10 updates on me.

I have managed to stop this by hiding updates and disabling Windows Update Assistant but....

All my system backups have been deleted
I have 'hidden' some updates but these settings are deleted from time to time by other upgrades.
I am getting a message splashed across my screen saying my version will no longer be supported from April.

Is anyone else angry that MS are forcing updates on us all?

You still own your PC. But you don't own Windows. Microsoft owns Windows. You have a license to use it. You agreed to that license. And that license happens to include their right to update it (when you're connected to Internet). Sorry, that's the way it is.

But if you set your connection to "metered" you only get security updates (as long as your current version is supported). If you want to keep receiving security updates after that, you'll have to do a big version update indeed.

Don't like it? Use another OS (like Linux or Android or Chrome). For Linux and Android you can choose your own updates. Chromebooks are maintained automatically by Google.

but License Windows. Your free to install another OS but the OEM could resist if you need hardware warranty work. Eventhough technically they are still required to support but can always use the reaso well the drivers for that OS are untested.
