Windows update not workingXP,DSO exploit in Spybot, constant

Nov 28, 2004 8:04AM PST

I have been trying to get the webpage to show what has been installed and what is needed and it just sits there, I wrote Microsoft and after weeks they are writing me to make some adjustments like Replace the ieuengine.dll file. They have also asked me to do other things in registry and nothing seems to work.
This is some of the things I have been asked to do, and can't seem to do what I am asked? I can't find servicepacks, and some other files>?THis is what I have been asked to do so far, and I was wondering if anyone out there can help>?

Replace the dll file

--------------------

Navigate to C:\windows\servicepacks\i386 folder.

Right click the iuengine.dll and choose copy.

Navigate to the following folder and right click to paste:

C:\windows\system32

C: \windows\system32\dllcach

Please reboot the computer and check if the issue persists.

If anything is unclear, please do not hesitate to let me know and help me to collect the following information:

Information Collection

==================

1. If there are any error codes or error messages, please take a screenshot.

d. Click the Edit menu and choose Paste.

e. Click the File menu and choose Save as.

f. Save the screenshot as a JPG file and send it as an attachment to the person handling my case.
I copied this from the email they sent me.
I also have not installed SP2 yet, since my hard drive was recently replaced by Toshiba and have had problems in the past, since I just got ADS TECH usb instant TV, I have tried 3 other devices from different companies and have always had a freeze up in the hard drive and had to return the devices. Now with the new hard drive and reconfiguration of the drive with win xp pro sp1, I am not taking any chances, I have been running the device all night and not turning it off, now for the last 7 hours making a copy of the Giants and then the Jets game to my external drive and so far so good. I have a Tecra S1 by Toshiba, with 1g ram, 40 gig hard drive and 1.7mghz,
I have also added Lavasoft Adaware and SPybot, and keep getting DSO exploit files in the Spybot and do the fix and immediately after fixing it, checking again and finding it again.,
I know that this is more than one problem, but rather than putting it in three different subjects I am trying to resolve all at once. Sorry if this is wrong, but I am disabled and have a hard time typing.
regards
Howard

Hi Howard
There is a fix for the Spybot thing, which I will give you but that apprears to be the least of your problems. I will let the experts help you with those. Here is the spybot fix though. I hope that helps ONE of your problems anyway. That is a bug in Spybot. There has been a beta fix released for it. Just download it on top of your current version. It will change your version to 1.3.1TX After you download it, run Spybot S&D, let it fix the DSO exploit, then reboot and run it again. It should be gone, if not, just put it into ignore until Spybot comes out with a permanent fix for it which should be soon. I'm not sure if the rebooting is totally necessary but it seems to work better that way.

Thank you very much for the Spybot fix, and I will try that now.
As for the other problem with Windows update, I will work with their tech people however long that takes and see if they can help me. It seems that the file they want me to copy and paste is not the one that I found for some reason, but I will continue with that. As for the TV tuner, so far so good with this one, I will keep it running and playing until I see that it won't cause a problem. Since I have 14 days to try it out from Compusa.
Thanks again.

Thank you, it worked perfectly the fix you gave me. Now if I can only get the win update page to work, and have this tv not cause any problems and on and on, I will be happy, ha, just kidding, problems get me to learn and get results like this, that is fun.
Happy Holidays,
Howard
