Answer
The Easiest Way For Me To Fix It Is
Jan 13, 2016 7:12PM PST

Open the Control Panel, then the "Action Center" icon, then "Change Action Center settings" in the upper left, then "Windows Update Settings" in blue, toward the bottom, then place a CHECK in the box next to "Give me updates for Microsoft products.......".

Of course, you it is possible to fix the problem by logging in as a different administrative user, not the one you normally use, (if you don't already have a second user with admin rights, you should have, so create one now in the Control Panel-User Accounts-Manage another account-Create a new account section) and change the Windows Updates setting there after logging in to the new account.. It will be merged into all admin users settings.

Hope this helps.

tried what you said HELP and THANK YOU

Did everything you said but still no option for microsoft updates. Worked on this for about 7 hrs yesterday. Googled nothing I tried worked. I did not do anything with registry. I even used system restore nothing worked. Most of the info I found were in 2009 etc someone said it was internet 11 so went back to 10 same thing so put everything on my computer back. I still get windows updates but not microsoft. Will I be OK the way it is. I have Microsoft works 9 (old but I like it) and word pad etc. I have never had a virus and am probably very cautious HELP will my computer still be safe. I am using windows 7. Can I just leave well enough alone.

Even Works 9 had an update a few years ago.. I doubt it will ever have any more thought.

Strange. I've never had a problem resetting the "Microsoft Updates" issue when logging in as a different admin user..

Hope this helps.
