Windows Update Keeps Trying to Install 125 Updates and Fails

Feb 15, 2015 7:34PM PST

Hello, I turned my PC on last week and it said Windows 7 had downloaded updates and was ready to install them. I looked at what it wanted me to install and there were 125 files. I thought this was odd as I regularly update. I went ahead anyway. After a long while installing the files my PC said that it needed to restart to complete the istallation, so I OK'd this. I got the warning not to power off my PC whilst it was being configured, so I just waited,& waited & waited. Finally it closed down and switched off. I then restarted it and i got the warning that i should not power off whilst the insall was being configured. This took over an hour, only to report at the end that it had failled and would revert to the previous version, which it evetually did.
When it finally restarted I noticed one or two things appeared to be different from how I normally have it configured so I restored my system to a few days earlier, and it has worked all weeked OK.
On switching on this morning Windows again told me 125 updates had been downloaded and were ready to install. I repeated the whole process again and again it failled to configure.
Is anybody else experiencing this problem, and has anybody got any ideas how to remedy it?
Yours in desperation!

win update

yes, i am having this exact same problem. after my win 7-64 machine downloaded those 125 updates again when i shut it off last nite, tried to configure them this morning, and then reverted back (this is the 2nd or 3rd time this has happened since the 15th), i went into win update and un-checked all new updates. it showed they all failed last nite. i don't know how long un-checking will work. i am certainly not going thru 125 updates and installing them all manually. i'll upgrade to 8 before i do that. why aren't we hearing more about why this is happening from microsoft?

Win 7 Updates

I gave up after updating about 8 manually i think it would take forever to go through them all one at a time. So for now I'm leaving my PC switched on so it doesn't try to install them again. I'm glad that it is just not me that this is happening to (sorry Kira I don't mean I'm glad it is happening to you!) but if it is a problem affecting others then maybe MS may think about trying to find a fix.

Apparently, (at least) one of those updates is not done succesfully. So what I would do: turn automatic updates off and do it one by one via Tools>Windows Update in Internet Explorer. Hide the one(s) that fail. Then when you're done enable automatic updates again.

for your suggestion. 125 Updates one at a time could take a while but I'll give it a try and let you know how I get on, but be warned I may be some time!!
Thanks
