Windows Update downloads and installs without my permission.

Feb 14, 2009 1:30AM PST

I have my Windows XP Updates set to "Download, but let me install". Lately, Windows just downloads and proceeds to install without my permission. I let it proceed because I don't want to miss an important update or patch. I checked my settings and they are still correct. How can I get Windows to just download and let me install? Thanks for any help you can give me.

malware?
Feb 14, 2009 3:02AM PST

Hi - I would first run a malware check, such as AVG free. Then, if that does not do it, uninstall updates completely and reinstall. By the way, do not be afraid you'd miss something important. You can always go to update.microsoft.com and they will check your comp for anything that is missing - criticsl or otherwide. Good Luck -Amos.

Most of them are on Control Panel/add or remove programs. There is a special section there dealing with Windows programs. - Amos
