In addition to the site given by Mark, here is another link which should tell you about the processes you see in Task Manager and in "msconfig".

"Msconfig" DOES "WORK" on Windows 2000 machines, but it isn't installed by default. All you need to do is borrow one from the Windows XP operating system and place it in the "C:\WINNT\system32" folder of Win2000. Please see the link below for those instructions,,if you chose to use them:

Since we ARE answering a question asked by "Mudfish67" who has Windows XP which DOES have the "System Configuration Utility/"msconfig" I thought it was appropriate to mention both locations for programs/processes.
