Windows Start Menu

My OP is Windows 98. When I am trying to shut down my computer it freezes and I have to restart it with ctr +alt +del. What is the reason? Please help me,

Many possible reasons. Try to remember the last change you made (install some new hardware, maybe?) before it started. This might help finding the cause.

What does ctrl-alt-del list as tasks still running?
start at bottom of list to "end task" and then retry shutdown.
Start PC and wait for load to finish, then try shutdown. Mine won't properly shutdown if I've done much of anything on it. I'll do a restart then shutdown, which it will do properly, just to write stuff to Hdd as it's supposed to.

Gotten any updates lately?

At the MS Windows 98 update site there is a patch for HD shutdown fixes. Have you been there?

Click Tools, Windows Update and follow the directions.
