Windows size when opening links

by trekker75 / June 28, 2006 5:17 AM PDT

Maybe some of you may help me. I was recently infected with 7 trojans and some spyware/malware/adware. Now when I open a link in any web page it opens in a very small window, about 1/3 the size of my screen size.
WindowsXP Media Center Edition (home ed.)
Compaq SR1750NX, Athlon 64 3500+, 1GB RAM, ATI Express 200 onboard graphics, 200Gb SATA HDD.
Thanks for any help!

Three suggestions...
by John.Wilkinson / June 28, 2006 6:05 AM PDT

1.) Click here for instructions on manually getting IE to open in its maximized form.
2.) Click here to download IE Maximizer, which should correct the problem.
3.) Switch to an alternative browser such as Firefox...it's not just a workaround for this problem but a step up in protecting your computer from future web attacks.

Hope this helps,
John

trekker75, Follow the instructions below exactly and your problem should be solved.
Right click the shortcut icon for IE next to the Start button, choose Properties, change it from 'normal' to 'maximized'. Now open it.
Now right click any link on the page, choose Open In New Window....don't maximize it....instead, use the mouse to resize it to what you want it to be.
Now close the FIRST window you opened, and then close the new one you just resized.
Reopen IE from the shortcut icon again, and all windows from now on will be the size you chose and created.

Note: If you don't have an IE icon next to the Start button (Quick Launch area) use the shortcut in your Start/Programs/Internet Explorer and follow the instructions above.

Well thanks, but. :(

I've tried all the ideas presented here to get links to open full size to no avail. It works on the pages I resize but then I tried it on some different links within those pages and IE still opens them in a really small window. guess I have gremlins.
another thing is when I "reply to this message" or log in, I'll get "Page cannot be found" or a plain white blank page saying done at the lower right. when I hit refresh this usually gets me where I intended.
