Question

Windows root system32\hal.dll missing or corrupt

Oct 7, 2012 12:02AM PDT

I have a HP Media Center PC...dual core, 2 GB memory, 300 GB ram. I do NOT have an XP recovery disk.

Is there anyway to reinstall the missing or corrupt files?

Thank you so much for any help you can give me. I have a laptop with Windows 7, but absolutely hate it, and desperately want my PC back.

Answer
No.

This is like a flat tire and you are missing the tire but then you find the tire is welded on the hub.

Explainer -> HP and many other PCs do not supply a full XP CD but a RECOVERY CD/DVD that allows you to get the machine back to its factory condition.

This confuses the new to fixing windows folks that are used to using the FULL RETAIL VERSIONS where we can do Repair Installs.

So there it is, you need the spare tire (recovery media) to get it reinstalled.

Some of our members have tried it..

Some of our members have tried it and found it to be (FAR) less then what they expected or hoped for. Sad

I would steer clear of it. There are too many nightmares attached to it.

Sorry to be the bearer of such bad news.
