I havea Dell Inspiron 5100 on which i was trying to reinstall xp. During the installation it said there was an eerror and it restarted the cpu. now whenever i start the cpu it will not let me go to F2 to boot from Cd again instead it says there is an invalid boot.ini file and that it is going to boot from somewhere else so it goesto another sceen wher it says missing or invalid <windows root>\system32\hal.dll and then it restarts and does it all over again i was wondering if there was any way for me to force it to bootto cd?

the only real way to fix this is with your xp cd you need to get it to boot from cd press r to repair then put in your administrators password then type :

this should sort it out
also try pressing escape to get into your bios settings. or can you get your hands on another harddrive and change your bios settings from that
