Question

Windows on storage hard drive

Apr 10, 2018 6:32PM PDT

Hi
I have installed a new SSD drive to my HP laptop to replace the original hard drive.
The original hard drive will be installed in a caddy in the DVD drive and used mainly for storing files

I have installed Windows 10 on my new SSD .
My question is , do I have to remove Windows from my original drive (being installed in DVD slot) which has files I still want to use on it?

Thanks in advance

Nope.

You can leave it or remove it as you see fit.

Be sure you have tested that it boots from the SSD before you add the old drive.

Thanks R.Proffitt

Good advice as I tried to instal Windows to the new drive with the old drive installed in the DVD caddy..It would not work but then no problems when I removed the old drive and installed with just one drive in place

My next question is how do I move Office over from the old drive to the new
Cheers

Usually by cloning the entire drive.

Apps don't move well since about 1995. Office should something you have install media for so if you are going for a clean install, just install Office when done.

Almost done!

Im very happy to have nearly finished this upgrade as I have no computer hardware experience

Boot up now takes 10 seconds with the SSD as opposed to 1 minute 40 with the old tied Drive

This morning just when I thought I was at home base I get a 'Preparing Automatic Repair ' flag as soon as I boot the laptop. I then get several options-Continue-Use a Device- etc .Does this mean I should run my USB Windows instalation drive? When I press 'Continue' the laptop goes straight to the desktop and and appears to be operating perfectly.

Thanks in advance for your help
