Windows Movie Maker crashes when I try to publish my file. I have tried both wmv and mpegs. I am trying to edit a file. I have done this with XP before. I cannot change the compatibility tab. I get a message saying it is part of this version of windows. I get this message. Any ideas?

This is quite common with downloaded clips. That is, clips you didn't make yourself.

The Solution
Dec 27, 2007 8:18AM PST

Since I was not given a solution to my question on this site, I surfed the web for a possible solution. I had no problem using the movie using XP so it wasn't a clip source problem as suggested.

I have read many message boards and it seems that this is a common problem. I found the solution on this site:

http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=104396

The solution that worked is:

Enter regedit.exe with Adim permission
Expend HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/Driver32
Right click msacm.voxacm160 and rename it to no.msacm.voxacm160

Thanks
