Take your set of files and test each type.

My bet is the PROJECT file will fail spectacularly.

Windows movie maker compatibility; windows vista/windows 7
Aug 31, 2010 2:23PM PDT

I have a MOvie maker project, file extension MSWMM, created on my notebook PC running windows vista on the version of movie maker "factory installed" with the computer.

When that one crashed, I got a new computer with windows 7. Windows LIve MOvie maker said my project was not fuly compatible and I wasn't able to work on it to finish it.

I tried downloading MOvie Maker 2.6 and when I try to open mmy project it was it created in a version not supported. I don't want to lose all my work on this project that's almost done.

What can be done about compatibility?

When this matters we don't allow changes to the machines. We keep the OS and software versions steady.
