Windows Media Player

Sep 3, 2015 12:28PM PDT

I am having issues with windows media player... every once in a while I see that is using as much as 2.4 GB of ram... and when it does...it literally freezes my computer at times. It has been frustrating... I have no idea WHY it shows 2,958,932 when I check in Task Manager... but it is doing it more and more often. Even when I attempt to "end process" it just pops back up and eats my RAM... I literally keep task manager OPEN now... waiting for it to crop up and suck my memory again! What is causing this? Someone said that it is Windows 10 hiding... that windows 10 installed 3 GB of crap on my computer and even though I have not officially installed it... it is there in Windows Media Player area now... is there ANYTHING that can be done? I have had to open my computer in safe mode numerous times now...

(NT) Since you didn't say how much RAM you have, I'd say add more

I've seen WMP issues for over a decade now. The usual is that some CODEC is buggy. A lot of CODECs are not from Microsoft so you can't ask MSFT to fix it.

There's also the issue of video encoding. There are now some thousand standards on video encoding so well, which leads to nutty issues.

3GB is nothing today. I just replaced a 1TB laptop drive for 65 bucks. You are complaining about 21 cents of disk space.

About RAM use. To get the best speed you use RAM over disk I/O. Nothing wrong about that.

-> For me I use VLC Player to play video. WMP, well, don't use it much.
