windows media player wants photogallery

Whenever I try to play an avi file in Windows Media Player, it auto starts to install "PhotoGallery" and then asks for a CD called 1. I tried putting my windows installer disk in, and this was not what it wanted. Is there any place I can get the "PhotoGallery" program that is part of windows so that Windows Media Player is happy. I know there are other players out there....Windows Media Player is just so integrated into windows it is hard to not use it. I have Windows XP.

Hi, my name?s Cody, and I?m working with the Windows Outreach Team to help answer any questions folks might have! I see you are looking for the best place to download a copy of Windows Photo Gallery.

Here?s a link: http://get.live.com/photogallery/overview Make sure and check the system requirements to make sure that you have what is needed to run the software before you install it! I hope this works, makes your copy of Windows Media Player ?happy,? and gets your movies running smoothly again. If you still have trouble after this, definitely let me know, and I?ll see if there?s anything else I can do.

Thanks,
Cody

WIndows Installer

In reply to: windows media player wants photogallery

I'm not sure you need Windows' Photo Gallery, and I am not convinced it will solve your problems.

This seems to be a Windows Installer problem. Playing AVI files in WMP should not need any photo gallery application, and I suspect that Windows Installer is charging in when it is not needed.

Have a look at Microsoft's Windows Installer Cleanup Utility as described here; http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

It may list the installer configuration information that is attempting to install this PhotoGallery, and if so, you can use it to remove that information. Use with care though. It is a very powerful tool.

I hope that helps.
