Question

Windows Media Player/Music Folder

May 14, 2015 2:07PM PDT

I have noticed that not all of the music I have added to WMP is showing up in my C:/Music folder. Worse-when I use One drive, or an external hard drive, I get even less music. I don't understand why it is at very least not showing up in my Music folder on the PC. I am running Windows 8.1 and WMP 12. Any help would be appreciated

The discussion of where WMP puts things.

Is legend. In short, WMP does not always put things in one place. This can really upset those that want files to land here and not there. Fix? Don't use WMP.

use your file manager

and open the music files from there. Or add the folders with your music into "My Music" which is just a folder with links to those other folders, similar to the way My Documents works.

moving music into Windows Media Player

First, I'd like to thank you both for taking your time to respond to my question. I have only switched to WMP a month ago. I have always been an iTunes guy. All you have to do to pull music from folders (an album, for example, or a whole artist's catalog), is click on "File" and select "add folder" (which I couldn't find on my new download of iTunes today) and guide the player to it and it imports it.....simple. I can not figure out a way to bring music from 1 album/catalog of an artist from my music folder separately, or sync a single file, without having to bring the whole list of folders on my ext HD, or Walkman, as a sync. I've tried syncing a single folder among 200 on the ext HD and I just can't figure it out. The only thing I have had luck with is ripping CD's into the player and automatically adding from my Amazon orders. There's got to be a way that I am just missing. I went to switch back to iTunes today, but the "add a folder" option was gone and it only offers to "add a file", which is a nightmare because that is adding song by song. My collection is just too large for that. Any tips or trips would be appreciated.

Thank you guys!!

The one thing.

There's a setting that can undo a person's hard work and cause them to self ignite. Ready?

"Arrange my music" is known by various names in many versions of WMP but hunt it down and turn it off if you want to take control of what folders and what's in those folders. Otherwise you are letting WMP move file and folders around.
