windows media player malfunction

If I try to activate my windows media player I get the following error message "internal application error" then nothing...I've run anti virus, anti malware, etc but to no avail. I tried deleting and reinstall the program also no good, same message...Can anybody help
I have a Sony Desktop 410 with XP home edition.

PS my next computer will be a MAC...thanks bill gates

There is a post on Tech Republic offering different suggestions...
I am going to try them tonight...Thanks to everyone.
Oh yeah...I'm still buying a MAC, ah without Vista
