Windows Media Player

Hi -- here's my problem.

First what I have -- WIN98, Windows Media Player 9, Netscape 7.1, the current JAVA, no firewall, nothing wireless, not on a network --- just me and my pc

Now -- sometimes when I go to a place that uses WMP online, it works just fine ... and sometimes it doesn't -- no video and no audio with no explanation for why. The screen shows up but nothing happens. It's been frustrating because it's so hit and miss as to whether or not it works.

Here's the current reason for my anxiety. I love NASCAR, and they have this thing called Trackpass where you can listen to in-car audio and watch the leaderboard, etc. Well - the leaderboard works fine, but the audio doesn't. No one has been able to figure out why. I even reinstalled WMP in case there was something amiss. I use my WMP all the time with excellent video and audio results, but on some sites, and apparently Trackpass is one, I just can't get it to work. The Trackpass folks even said WMP 9 is preferred right now. WMP 10 is for WIN XP.

I've tried researching it, but I've found lots of dead links from microsoft in their troubleshooting department. I don't know if there's a codec out there for audio or something for streaming that may be the culprit -- just don't know. Everyone says it should work, but nothing is happening.

Does anyone out there have any ideas, or has this happened to anyone else?

Never found a cure-all, but this link...

Type WMP MINI FAQ into google.com and the first to third links is what I try.

Windows 98 may be part of the issue now. Getting harder to fix every month it seems.

Thank you so much for responding to my request. I checked out the page and wow, is there a lot of info there. One of the items covered something very basic with computer updates, and I checked into that, and I think that may have been my problem. Some of the things previously unobtainable to me on Trackpass are working now. Won't be able to check the in car audio until a race, but I'm quite excited because I think maybe the problem is solved.

Anywho -- thanks for taking the time to post the info. It was helped!

I wish the repairs were as simple as a click this button, but WMP is ... that way.
