Windows Media Player 10 dropping out

May 24, 2005 3:02AM PDT

Dell Dimension, XP, Pentium 4, 512 RAM, 2.99 GHz
When viewing streaming video, the WMP will (at random times) just drop out making it impossible to continue. The problem is fixed by a re-boot. Every re-boot gives me a message that Windows can't close because the WMP app is still running. I have to close it manually by clicking the End Now button. Following that, the re-boot is successful and WMP again is "normal"...until the next time, which could be later in the same day or the next day. Have uninstalled 10 and played 9 for a while but for reasons I can't recall I was bumped up to 10 again. Any thoughts? Thank you.
Bob

There are several that have had a problem with 10. I use 9 as it seems to work a lot better & have no problems. This has been sugested in these forums. Gordon

Had similar problems

usually when running in a window that is embedded in the web page - have changed this in the options to run as a separate occurrence of wmp and the problem doesn't occur anymore - also make sure you have all latest codecs and plugins.

look for hotfix updates by going to Windows Update web page as well as updates from within WMP.
