windows media 10

I am having problems with my media player.
It seems when a song starts to play, about a minute later a pop up screen will come up and tells me that windows media player wants to close.
I was wondering if I could install (reinstall) windows media 9. I am no expert but 10 might be buggy. Yes, I have all my updates. I have winxp sp2. Hope you can help.
Thank you very much for your time.
