Windows Mail not starting on new system

A friend bought a new Gateway laptop for his kids. Its running Vista with 2GB of RAM. He imported his Outlook Express mail files, etc. from his old computer and it was working fine. Now, when he clicks on on Windows Mail it never starts. I did notice that a few Windows Mail updates were loaded last night. Has anyone else had this problem and can anyone offer suggestions? Thanks ahead of time.

Lodge the complaint now with Gateway so you have the earliest possible date that you can point to if Vista goes sour on you.
