If it's McAfee, then make sure to disable the firewall there.. Then check the Windows Firewall. If it's enabled also, disable that one.
Hope this helps.

I'm new to Vista and I'm still trying to get a new Dell laptop configured properly. It is running Windows Vista Home Premium. I have 2 POP3 accounts that I am trying to configure. One (for Yahoo) works OK almost all of the time. The other (for my ISP) is not working reliably. If Windows Mail is already open and I download messages from my ISP (instead of Send/Receive All) the process will usually work, but if I try to Send/Receive All (either by clicking that button or at startup) I get the following message:
An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: POP3, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800C0148
If I have a message in the outbox (or if I have the computer set up to delete messages after downloading) I usually get a pair of error messages:
An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800C0148
An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'Yadtel Melanie', Server: 'mail.yadtel.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800C0148
I'm puzzled by the Port: 0 part because Windows Mail is set up to use the defaults ports: Port 25 for SMTP and Port 110 for POP3 on that account (I did not change the defaults, nor does my ISP require a non-default port)
The SMTP and POP3 servers are correctly configured with my userID (email address) and password. The ISP does not want 'This server requires a secure connection' checked (or 'Log on using Secure Password Authentication') ... it's a fairly generic setup except for the fact that it does not work reliably.
The ISP seems to be acting OK. My old box (Win XP Professional SP 2, OE) downloads just fine like it always has using the same settings I have used for the Vista laptop.
I have already disabled email scanning in my AV (the pre-installed McAfee).
Any suggestions about further steps?
Thanks.
