Nov 22, 2004 10:50PM PST

I was given an old computer for use by my kids. It has Windows ME on it. Every time it boots up a Windows logon screen appears. I wud like to remove this. Can someone tell me how to do this. I went into control panel under users but it doesn't show any users. Thanks in advance for any help.

Appreciate the response. I tried ur response but I still get a logon window where I just click cancel and it boots to the desktop. I didn't make my question clear. What I'm trying to do is to remove/delete the logon window completely. When I turn on the computer I want it to boot right to the desktop. I remember from windows 98 that on the initial startup the window would appear and a message also was with the logon that said if u didn't want this to appear again just click ok or maybe cancel (one of them) and on the next startup the system booted right to the desktop with no logon window appearing. I know there is a way to eliminate this window in 98 but can't remember the process nor and I definitely don't know anything about ME. I tried searching on the CNET forum but can't find an answer. Can u help????? tks in advance.

But first let me share that many do not understand the implications of removing the MS Client in networking. You can do this, but do not complain to me about what happens next.

Read the link again, and after deleting the .PWL files and a reboot, do not click on the cancel or touch the password box. Type a name, click OK for just one more time.

Hope it helps,
