Resolved Question

Windows loading problems!

Jan 10, 2015 6:34AM PST

Hello everyone. I'm a total noob when it comes to anything with computers so I need a little help here.

This is actually for my old desktop that is primarily used by my mom now. So here's a little back history on it, it's a Compaq desktop, originally had Vista which kept crashing and was down graded to XP and had been XP since. So my mom was using it and one of theses little "update windows" things popped up, she chicken it, followed through the steps and since then windows won't load. You'll turn it on, the start up runs, gets the the 'windows is loading' page and get stuck there.

I tried to do a factory reset, but sill ol me forgot that it doesn't have the factory version so that was a no go. What do I do? Buy a version of windows7 and install that or is there something else that can be done?

Any help would be greatly appreciated Happy

Do they need Windows?

Install something like Linux Mint 17 on it and they can do web surfing, email and more.
Yes, it has card games.

I take it you didn't make or order the restore media?

Also, they'd prefer windows as they are familiar with it, what would you suggest in that case?
