Windows Live Search vs Google... google wins round 1 for me

Mar 8, 2006 9:14PM PST

I hope microsoft improves soon...

example: I wanted to find the website for the news show World News Now. I thought, ok, lets try microsoft's new search engine. i went to live.com and put it in. While the web 2.0 feel is very nice and cool features, the actual search results sucked. the webpage for the show was nowhere to be found. I then went to google, put in the same search string (without quotes mind you ... world news now) and behold, it was the first hit that came up on the search results page!!! Google 1, Microsoft 0

Oh, so i went back to live.com and put the search in quotes and it gave me the right search results. but i shouldn't have to put the thing in quotes...

microsoft needs to get it together...

My experience
Mar 8, 2006 11:16PM PST

I searched for my name on Live.com and it actually did find more search results of my own. So, I dunno, maybe they did develop something better, only time will tell.

I also like the search within this site feature.

Google has its good points and so does Microsoft. Why can't they work together!!!

wrong search page?

I wonder if you're using the right search engine...

I just tried it and the first two links were what you wanted.

And if you like Google's simple page, you'll love http://search.live.com.

No it doesn't work on live.com

nope... the first hit that comes up is World News Tonight... i wanted World News Now. it is a totally different show.

no doubt Microsoft gets the nod for being a bit cooler and having nifty features (search this page, and unlimited hits on a page)
but the core of this stuff is the search algorithms themselves... and so far googles hits are better.

i will try another one in a bit...

it is a coffee maker (i am sitting in my coffee shop and i figured i would try it) I want the actual main webpage for bunn o matic

Google: 3rd hit down
Microsoft: couldn't find it (although there were several hits on buried bunnomatic.com webpages... ie the canada one, a law page...)

sorry microsoft... not cutting it for me...

Oh wait, you just mean search don't you?

Okay, add about 12 to Microsoft's score then.

...that chalky taste...

Chalk one up to live.com.

Couldn't find show times for a local event on Google. Wasn't within the first few pages, and after those pages all things were irrelevant.

But link #7 on live.com was exactly what I needed...

Nothing big, but thought I'd share.
