Windows Live Movie Maker can't open .MOV files. Why?

by dc_2000 / January 12, 2010 2:40 PM PST

I got a new laptop with Windows 7 and downloaded the Windows Live Movie Maker. I really like that program except that it doesn't open my .mov files that come out of my digital camera. (I tried to contact Nikon but received a standard response to use their software instead.)

I know that Windows Live Movie Maker can open .mov files because it does on my old XP machine, but unfortunately I've installed so many codecs there that it's impossible to figure out which one works with .mov files.

I also installed the Apple Quicktime on this laptop and it can play .mov files alright, but it still doesn't help with opening them in Windows Live Movie Maker.

Can someone suggest how fix this?

Live Movie Maker only runs on Vista/Win7
by Zeeyad / March 16, 2010 1:01 PM PDT

Hey sorry for the late response. Anyway I have couple of things to clarify:
1. Windows XP doesn't support Live Movie Maker. WLMM only runs on Vista/Win7.
2. MOV files should be supported in WLMM, for more info please checkout this page:
3. Verify that you have the latest version of Windows Live Movie Maker (WLMM) by downloading it from:

If you still have more questions/concerns feel free to post them on:

Enjoy using Windows Live Movie Maker Wink

The most beautiful phone ever has one wildly annoying issue

The Samsung Galaxy S8's fast speeds and fantastic curved screen make it a top phone for 2017, but the annoying fingerprint reader could sour your experience.
