Windows Live Messenger profile picture

May 21, 2010 4:09PM PDT

One of my contacts in Windows Live Messenger has changed their profile picture, but when I try to edit my contacts list, their old picture is still displayed with a message "The contact could not be sent to the server because the instant messaging address is invalid". However the instant messaging address is NOT invalid, because I regularly send instant messages to that address from Windows Live Messenger. Does anybody know what I need to do to fix this problem PLEASE. Many thanks and regards. Geoff

Is this is what you mean?
If one of your contacts in windows live messenger has changed the profile picture then you will not see that particular picture when you are chatting with one another. Instead you see the person's display picture in the chat windows.

To see someones profile picture,
- Right Click your chosen contact
- Select View - > Profile

This contact changed his profile picture. When I view his profile, the new picture is there, no problem. But when I sign-in to Windows Live Messenger, his old profile picture appears next to his name in the list of contacts, and whatever I do, I can't get the new picture to appear. I have his user name and password (he's my father!) and have been into his profile and it is all ok.

Aha, right, that's interesting! Any idea how I change his display pic then? Thanks for any help you can give.

To change a display picture:

- Open Windows Live Messenger
- Click Tools - Options
- Under the Personal Tab you should see Display Picture.
- Click Change Display Picture
- Choose a picture of your choice
- Click Ok.

Good Luck

Hi. Thanks for your help. However, the contact has already changed his display picture (I know, because it's my father and I can sign in as him and check it out) He has got a different display picture to the picture of him I get next to a chat window when I sign in. I still get the previous picture from maybe 6 months ago. I'm totally foxed??

This is beyond my knowledge however see this:

When you check display pictures are both accounts signed in at the same time. In other words are both accounts online in messenger. You should check that first.
