Windows Live Messenger problem

Almost every time I start the most recent version of Windows Live Messenger, I don't even have the time to properly see who's online, since it stops responding immediately. I reset my computer to the factory settings yesterday and got all the updates from microsoft, but I still can't get it to work.. any ideas on how to solve this?
My system: HP pavilion dv3, Win7 64bit, 4gb RAM, Core i3 370M 2,4GHz
